Mass was held Tuesday, April 14 at St. Jude's Catholic Church in Ceres for Alberto Martinez Sr., 80, of Ceres. He died Wednesday, April 8, 2009.
A graveside service was at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Modesto under the direction of Salas Brothers Chapel.
Born Dec. 27, 1928 in Michoacan, Mexico to Salud and Jesus Martinez, Alberto came to the United States in 1961. He worked as a farm laborer for 27 years before he was hired at Tri Valley Growers, where he worked as a mechanic for 30 years. Alberto was a faithful member of Teamster union Local 748. Mr. Martinez enjoyed working, gardening, and watching boxing.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 57 years, Amelia Martinez; three children, Guadalupe Martinez of Modesto, and Alberto Martinez, Jr. and Yolanda Colunga, both of Ceres; his sister, Hermila Chavez of Ceres; and 16 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brother Ernesto Martinez.
