The rosary will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, during visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. at Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel for Alex Romero Candelaria, 77, of Modesto. He died Saturday, March 20, 2004 at his home.

A Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Jude's Catholic Church in Ceres.

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella.

Born April 26, 1926, Mr. Candelaria was a native of Williams, Ariz., and had lived in Modesto since 1986. He was a missile site operator for 35 years with the Army National Guard. Mr. Candelera was a member of St. Jude's Catholic Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, both in Ceres. He served in the Army from 1944-46.

He leaves behind his wife, Mathilda "Tillie" Candelaria of Modesto; three children, Roger Candelaria of San Jose, Ebon Kent of Brentwood and Demitria Candelaria of Seattle; his foster daughter, Nora Torres of Hayward; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter Antoinette "Toni" Salka.
