A Celebration of Life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 3 at Turlock Grace Tabernacle Church for Alverna J. Chaves, 82, of Angels Camp. She died April 17, 2008.

The Angels Memorial Chapel is in charge of inurnment at a later date.

Born Aug. 11, 1925, Mrs. Chaves was a native of San Leandro and lived in the Modesto-Ceres area for a number of years. She moved to Angels Camp about a year ago. She was a line worker at the Tillie Lewis Cannery in Modesto for 23 years. She provided in-home daycare in Modesto for 20 years. She attended the Ropes of Rescue Fellowship in Modesto. Mrs. Chaves was known as a great story teller. Her hobbies included fishing, camping, playing games and playing the guitar. Mrs. Chaves taught Sunday School. She enjoyed spending time with her family.

She leaves behind three daughters, Carolyn Sobotka of Ceres, Barbara Rose of Angels Camp and Vickie Rocha of Waterford; four brothers, three sisters, 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, William Chaves (1972), mother Lida Richardson (1978) and great-grandchild Alivia Hope Nobles.
