Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Lakewood Memorial Park & Funeral Home in Hughson for Barbara Wassum, 88, of Modesto. She died June 7, 2011.
A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Born Aug. 11, 1922, Barbara was the daughter of Clyde and Dorothy Hudelson, a descendant of the Hudelson family which was one of the original settlers of the Hughson area. Raised on the family ranch, Barbara attended Hughson schools, graduating from Hughson High School in 1940. After attending Modesto Junior College, Barbara attended modeling school in San Francisco. After World War II, she was married to her high school sweetheart, John Wassum in September of 1946. They lived and farmed the family ranch in Hughson. Mrs. Wassum was active in community groups, including the Hughson Historical Society, and was an avid golfer and game hunter. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, John, children and their families and friends.
She leaves behind her husband of 65 years, John Wassum of Modesto; her three children, Barbara Willis, Janis Skaggs and Michael Wassum; seven grandchildren, Michael Willis, Lisa White, Michael Skaggs, John Skaggs, Natalie Wassum, Erin Wassum, and Ryan Wassum; and 13 great-grandchildren.
