A funeral mass was celebrated on Monday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Hughson, for Bernard G. "Bernie" Voss , 67, of Hughson. He died on Feb. 2, 2009, in Modesto.

Lakewood Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Born Feb. 21, 1941 in San Jose to Joe and Irene Voss, Bernie graduated from Bellarmine College Prepatory in San Jose before attending Modesto Junior College and then transferring to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Bernie was a third-generation farmer starting in the San Jose area before buying property in Hughson and Ceres. He belonged to the California Cling Peach Board Committee as well as a Sunsweet Board Member. Mr. Voss was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus and was also very active with the California Farm Bureau. Bernie and his brothers, Henry and Carl, farmed for many years together in Ceres and Hughson. He then farmed his own land and started a custom harvesting business with son Kevin Voss. Bernie enjoyed traveling around the world, NASCAR racing and looking after his dogs.

He leaves behind his wife of 46 years, Gwen Voss of Hughson; his two children, Tracy Miller, and Kevin Voss; and his grandchildren, Cari Miller, Craig Miller, Justin Voss and Kristen Voss. Bernie was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Irene Voss.
