A memorial service was held Monday at the Cozad Church of Christ in Cozad, Neb., for Beverly "June" Carpenter, 74, of Austin, Texas. The former Ceres resident died March 2, 2011.

Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad was in charge of arrangements.

Born Sept. 13, 1936, in Greybull, Wyo., to Darrell and Arlene Drake Fellows, June attended school in Cozad, Neb. She met and married Donald Dean "Pal" Carpenter on Jan. 14, 1957 and raised their children in Cozad and then chased their dreams to Texas. In 1978 they settled in the Baytown, Texas area. In 1987, Mrs. Carpenter earned her professional driver's certification. With her husband June was able to realize a dream of becoming an owner operator over-the-road truck driving team. Together they enjoyed traveling throughout the United States visiting family and friends. Six years after Pal's death in 1993, June met Lloyd Hughes and settled in Ceres where she served concurrent terms as the Ceres Womens' Club president and secretary. As devoted members of the Model A Car Club, June and Lloyd attended all of the events, driving both of their Model A's. In 2009 she moved to Austin, Texas, to be near her daughters.

She leaves behind her daughters, LeeLeen Sundbeck of Austin, Texas, Valencia Miller of Mont Belvieu, Texas; her stepchildren, Donald Carpenter of Cozad, and Margorie Waldrop of San Benito, Texas; and 21 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband Pal in 1993, her parents, her husband, and sons Arthur Darrell and John Jay Carpenter.
