A funeral service was held Monday at Turlock Funeral Home for Dorothy Belle Peterson, 87, of Turlock. She died April 6, 2012 in Turlock.

Private interment was at Turlock Memorial Park.

Born June 19, 1924 in Arlington, Wash., to Ira and Maude Hunter, Dorothy graduated from North Park University in Chicago and earned her teaching credential from Seattle Pacific University. She moved to the Central Valley in 1960 and taught first through fourth grades for Ceres Unified, Mountain View and Chatom schools until she retired in 1984. Dorothy married Earl Peterson in 1963. She attended New Life Christian Center where she was active in the greeting ministry. Dorothy enjoyed antiquing, traveling, and gardening. She was a member of Turlock Historical Society and volunteered for the Turlock Historical Museum.

She leaves behind her husband, Earl Peterson of Turlock; her daughter, Linda Wierschem of Modesto; her sister, Maude Green of Roseville; and three grandsons, Erik Wierschem of Honolulu, Scott Wierschem of Arroyo Grande and Lance Wierschem of San Luis Obispo. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Frank, and sisters Mildred Krutz, and Ruth Chambers.
