A memorial service was held Thursday at St. Francis Anglican Church in Turlock for Eileen Walker, 89, of Turlock. She died Nov. 8, 2009 at her home.

Private inurnment was at Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno. Allen Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Born in December 1919 in Chowchilla, Eileen moved to Berkeley when she was 7. She graduated from Berkeley High School and went on to receive a bachelor's degree from University of California, Berkeley and a nursing degree from University of California, San Francisco. Mrs. Walker served as a Navy nurse during World War II and was stationed for two years on Adak Island in the Aleutians. That is where she met her future husband John. After the war she attended University of Washington and earned a Public Health Nurse Certificate. Mrs. Walker worked for many years as a school nurse in Ceres and Turlock school districts.

She leaves behind three sons, Mark Walker of Turlock, and Dan Walker and John Walker, both of Burbank; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. John Walker.
