A graveside service was held Saturday at the Burwood Cemetery in Escalon for Elsie V. Coker, 84, of Ceres. She died peacefully of a long illness on May 30, 2011 surrounded by family members.

Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Born June 15, 1926 in Caldwell, Idaho to Orval and Viola Tish, Elsie married William B. Coker in 1946. They lived in Oregon for many years before moving to the Ceres-Modesto area in 1969. They were married for 55 years until Mr. Coker's death in 2002. Mrs. Coker worked for 16 years at Tri Valley plant 7. She enjoyed sewing, shopping, reading, going on cruises with her family and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She leaves behind her children, Shirley Coker, James Coker, Jerry Coker, Judy Healtey and Lamar Coker; and 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband William Coker, brothers Walter Tish and Richard Tish and sister Myrtle Sellers.
