A graveside service was held Monday at Lakewood Memorial Park for Elwin Leroy Baldwin, 85, of Hughson. He died April 27, 2011 at English Oaks Convalescent Hospital in Modesto.

Born April 9, 1926 in Hughson, Elwin was raised there. He served four years in the Army where he was a military administrative specialist. Mr. Baldwin attended colleges to obtain his degree and become an elementary school teacher which spanned nearly 30 years. His teaching career began in Empire, and he later moved to Santa Cruz. He continued his teaching career in Aptos until his 1981 retirement. At that time he returned to Hughson to live on the almond ranch that he had purchased years earlier. An avid reader, Elwin enjoyed following automotive technology news and Asian culture and arts and was devoted to many charities, especially the Salvation Army and Modesto Union Gospel Mission.

He leaves behind nephews Bruce Baldwin, Ron Baldwin, Bob Baldwin and his sister-in-law Elaine Baldwin, five nephews, three nieces, one great nephew and one great niece. He was preceded in death by parents Henry Claude and Hannah Marie Baldwin and brothers Loren Baldwin and Edgar Baldwin.
