A chapel service was held Monday at Lakewood Funeral Home for Eva May Baptist Jones, 95, of Turlock. She died July 11, 2011 in Turlock.

Born Dec. 22, 1915 in Tulare, Eva was the second child and the first of seven girls born to Alexander and Eva May Thomas. The family moved to the Hughson/Turlock area, where later Eva met Joe Baptist Jr. her husband. They were married on April 26, 1933 and were married for 31 years. Joe was a self-employed dairyman and Eva worked hard milking cows and cooking meals for her family and the hired help. Eva was a good cook and often drove truck loads of silage and other feed for the cattle. In 1987, Eva married Claude B. Jones, an evangelistic minister. They traveled across the country to attend revivals and other church related events. Eva and Claude were married for 15 years until Claude passed away in 2002. After raising her children, Eva worked for many years in various food processing plants and canneries in the Oakdale and Modesto area.

She leaves behind three children, Elvera Fraga and Irv Baptist, both of Hughson and Joe Baptist III of Yerington, Nev.; her brother, Edward Thomas; her sister, Wanda Thomas; and 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Remembrances may be sent to Hospice of Emanuel, 825 Delbon Ave., Turlock, CA 95382.
