A graveside service was held Tuesday at Ceres Memorial Cemetery for Freda Juanita Wheelock, 91, of Ceres. She died July 10, 2008.
The Ceres Chapel of Franklin & Downs was in charge of arrangements.
Born Oct. 25, 1916 in Ralls County, Mo., to Joseph E. and Ida Alice (Bastion) Hatten, Freda grew up in Hannibal, Mo. There she was a lifetime member of the Fifth Street Baptist Church. On Nov. 7, 1943 she married George W. Wheelock in Quincy, Ill. They moved to the Modesto-Ceres area in 1979. She raised 11 children.
She leaves behind nine children, Georgie "Punky" Meracle of Warm Springs, Ore., Katie Dilworth and Janey Bernal, both of Ceres, Bud Wheelock of Joseph, Ore., Loren Wheelock of Madras, Ore., Larrie Wheelock of Modesto, Jim Wheelock of Bakersfield, Garry Wheelock of Canyonville, Ore., and John Wheelock of Ceres; and 22 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband George, her parents, two sisters, two brothers, daughters Ida Dell Moody and Opal Pearl (Perry) Wheelock and great-grandson Matthew Salazar.
