A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14 at Central Seventh-day Adventist Church in Modesto for Gaylord Boyce Boyer, 75, of Hughson. He died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004 at his home.

Burial was private at Lakewood Memorial Park under the direction of Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel.

Born Sept. 25, 1928, Mr. Boyer was a native of Benton Harbor, Mich., and lived in Modesto for 41 years before recently moving to Hughson. He was an educator and administrator from 1950 to 2000, in Burbank and at Grace Davis High School, Modesto, and then was a director of vocational education for Modesto City Schools. Mr. Boyer also had been principal of Modesto Adventist Academy in Ceres, and a financial planner with IDS Financial Planners and American Express. At the age of 72, Mr. Boyer became a pilot and in 1990 founded KADV Radio Station, 90.5 FM, operated out of the Ceres based Modesto Adventist Academy. He was a member of Central Seventh-day Adventist Church, Modesto. Mr. Boyer enjoyed flying, woodworking, metal welding, engines, boating, skiing, reading and genealogy. He was a hiker who had climbed Mount Whitney.

He leaves behind by his wife, Ruth L. Boyer of Hughson; three children, Greg B. Boyer of Bailey, Colo., Cheri A. Casey of Modesto and Gennalee S. Young of Chinese Camp; his stepsister, Sandi Davis of Benton Harbor, Mich.; and four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
