A funeral service was held Saturday at Lakewood Memorial Park and Funeral Home for George Carvalho Sr., 84, of Ceres. He died Oct. 21, 2010.

Born April 16, 1926 in Wailuku, Maui to Domingo and Mary Carvalho, George came to California in the late 1940s and raised his family in Hayward. George loved the rodeo and socializing with his cowboy friends in Makawao. He moved to Ceres 20 years ago. Mr. Carvalho enjoyed woodcarving, playing his guitar at family gatherings, animals, and visiting with family and friends.

He leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Isabel Carvalho of Ceres; his sons, George Carvalho Jr. of Modesto, Glenn Carvalho of Arizona, and Dennis Carvalho of Nevada; three brothers, Danny Carvalho, Ernest Carvalho, and Walter Carvalho, all of Hawaii; two sisters, Dorothy of Hawaii and Betty Lou of Hughson; and seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by parents Domingo and Mary Carvalho, brothers Eddie, Domingo Jr., Nick, Jimmy and Adam, sister Girlie, and grandchildren Dennis Jr., Sheila and Stanley.
