Gilbert Vizcarra

February, 1952 – July 11, 2018

Gil Vizcarra passed away on July 11, 2018 at the age of 66 years.

A native of California, Gil grew up in Southern California in a large, loving family with his parents, Gilbert and Rosaline Vizcarra, seven sisters and two brothers.

Gil had an interesting life and working career. He was a rogue scholar, an entrepreneur and energetic.  He was artistic, creative and loved invention and design.  During his life many jobs interested him and he held several careers, including working for his father’s food processing company, buying antiques across the country to sell in Sutter Creek, and building movie sets in Santa Fe, New Mexico for Wyatt Earp.

Gil was a talented woodworker and craftsman and had businesses in Sutter Creek and Anaheim.  He built many stunning pieces of custom furniture during his career, and was published in Fine Woodworking Magazine.  After moving to Modesto, Gil became a systems engineer for Stanislaus County until he retired.

A wonderful husband, father and family man, Gil enjoyed traveling and the outdoors.  He was a leader in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts and enjoyed activities with his sons.

He is survived by Angela, his loving wife of 37 years; and two sons Gilbert IV (Lauren Russel) and Benjamin.

A Celebration of Gil’ s life will be held at 1 p.m., on Saturday, Sept. 15 at Allen Mortuary, 247 N. Broadway, Turlock.
