Harriett M. Marriott

Harriett M. Marriott, 91, a native of Hughson, passed away June 16 in Turlock.

Born Oct. 20, 1925, to Edgar Harvey Kingery and Julia Harriett Eyre, Harriett grew up on the family farm on Whitmore Avenue east of Hughson. She attended the Hughson school system, graduating from Hughson High School in 1944.

On May 26, 1945 she married high school sweetheart Roger Carl Marriott. After Roger was discharged from the Army they made their home on East Grayson Road south of Hughson, carrying on both families' tradition of farming. On their walnut farm they raised their son Bruce and daughter Sharon. They were also active in the Hughson community.

A lifelong member of the Hughson United Methodist Church, Harriett taught Sunday school for a number of years and participated in fundraisers and other activities. She was also involved and active in the VFW Auxiliary of Hughson, Young Farmers & Young Homemakers, Hughson PTA, Hughson 4-H, and the Hughson Youth Center. She also supported her children in their school events and clubs, attending countless summer swim meets and other sporting and club activities.

She leaves behind a son, Bruce Marriott, and his children Tami, John, and Matthew, and grandson Christopher; her daughter, Sharon Lingerfelt and her husband Edward, as well as their son Joshua; two sisters, Ruth DeSando and Joan Lewis; her brother, Harvey Kingery; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by granddaughter Mandi Lingerfelt, sister Helen Rockwell, and brothers Jack Dameron, Sam Kingery, and Ronald Dameron.

Allen Mortuary was in charge of the graveside service at Lakewood Memorial Park on July 7.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Hughson United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. on July 29.
