A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct.. 3 at First Southern Baptist Church, 2813 East Don Pedro Rd, Ceres, for Rev. Homer Gene Evins. He passed on Sept. 27, 2012 at Memorial Medical Center.

A visitation will be held in Oakdale, La., on Friday, Oct. 5, 2012 from 7-9 p.m at Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church and then again on Saturday, October 6, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Liberty Hill Cemetery in Forest Hill, La.

Homer Gene Evins was born to Abe and Rebecca Evins on July 26, 1957 in Oakdale, La., and was a resident of Stanislaus County for 37 years. He worked for Modesto Junior College for 32 years and retired as a custodian supervisor. He was a minister at First Southern Baptist Church in Ceres.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Tanya Renee Evins of Modesto; his son, Homer Gene Evins Jr.; and a host of other sons and daughters; his brothers, Dr. Charles Ray Evins Sr. (Gloria) of Modesto, Rev. F.H. Tubby Evins, Sr. (Annie) of Atlanta Ga., Paul Jerome Metoyer of Texas, Donald Ray Holmes, Anthony Holmes of Killeen Texas; his sisters, Earnestine Collins, Sally Ann Moreaux (Danny), Vergie Lee Christian (Roger), Dorothy Mae Anthony (Kenneth) of Oakdale, La., Dorothy Mae Smith (Richard) of Amarillo, Texas, Sheila Terrell Metoyer of Baton Rouge, LA; and a host of other loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Abe and Rebecca Evins, brother Abe (Jackie) Evins, Jr., John Glenn Evins and sisters, Amy Jean Evins and Brenda Gail White.
