A graveside service was held Thursday at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella for Howard Christopher Wilch, 83, of Hughson. He died at his home on Nov. 21, 2007.

Lakewood Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Born April 30, 1924, Mr. Wilch was a native of Omaha, Neb. After he left high school he enlisted in the Marine Corps during World War II. He served from 1942 to 1946, and was stationed on Guadalcanal. Mr. Wilch was discharged with the rank of corporal. He was employed by Foremost Dairy in Hughson as a separator mechanic for over 20 years.

Mr. Wilch was an officer in several clubs, including the Old Goats, Cooties, Elks Club and the Knights of Columbus.

He leaves behind his wife Arlene Wilch of Hughson; his children, Howard Wilch Jr., and Margaret Wilch; his two step-sons, Bruce Styles and Mike Styles; his sister, Gertie Robling; and four grandchildren, Christopher Wilch, Stephanie Wilch, Jonas Ellison and Tyson Gonzalves.
