Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. today at Allen Mortuary in Turlock for Iva Mae Welsh, 83, of Ceres. She died April 14, 2011 at the Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Allen Mortuary's chapel.

Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Born February 1928 in Verden, Okla., to William and Bertie Grammer, Iva moved to California as a young girl with her family. Her parents were agricultural workers, and she attended schools in the Central Valley. Mrs. Welsh worked in the canneries until her retirement. Iva enjoyed entertaining close friends and guests with southern style hospitality. Mrs. Welsh also enjoyed visiting casinos for bingo games, citizen's band radio club membership and volunteered at the Stanislaus County Fair and at the highway rest areas.

She leaves behind her son, Dennis Thompson of Modesto; two grandsons, Christopher Loyd Thompson and Kyle Nathaniel Thompson; two great-grandsons, George Thompson and Isaiah Roblis; and her grand-daughter-in-law Katie Snell. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John Welsh and sister Beulah Belvin Mays.
