A memorial service will be held at his home in West Point in Calaveras County at a future date for Jack D. Nugent, 76, of West Point. The former Ceres resident died Feb. 22, 2012.

Born on August 9, 1935 in Camdenton, Mo., to LeRoy and Leona Nugent, Jack was raised in Ceres. He was a PG&E heavy equipment operator for 35 years and retired in 1997. In the late 1970s and 1980s he lived on Vaughn Street in Ceres which becomes Christmas Tree Lane each December and enjoyed playing Santa Claus and handing out candy to the children. Mr. Nugent loved the competition of decorating yards. Jack moved to West Point in Calavaras County in the mid 1980s. He was an avid hunter and fisherman for years and enjoyed feeding the deer that would roam on his property.

He leaves behind two children, Jackie Hamrick of Modesto, and Art Nugent of Sonora; his sister, Joyce Hess of Staunton, Va.; and five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceeded in death by his parents and brother Jim Nugent.
