Graveside services were held recently at Ceres Memorial Park for James Leon Ledford, 89, of Ceres. He died Jan. 24, 2009.

The Ceres Chapel of Franklin & Downs was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ledford was born Jan. 17, 1920 in Oklahoma. He came to California as a young man, living in Indio and later Waterford before moving to Ceres approximately 18 years ago. James served as a military policeman in the Army. When he came to the Central Valley he worked in agriculture. Mr. Ledford was an avid bowler and participated in senior league at Yosemite Lanes in Modesto.

He leaves behind his wife, Ernestine Ledford of Ceres; three stepchildren, Sharon Haarsma and Johnnie Haarsma, both of Ceres, and Jeffery Haarsma of Portland, Ore.; and four grandchildren, Carrie Haarsma, Sarah Haarsma, Emilie Haarsma and John Haarsma.

Remembrances may be sent to Community Hospice, 4368 Spyres Way, Modesto, CA 95356; or to Central Valley Christian Academy in Ceres.
