Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Lakewood Funeral Home (Riverside Chapel) 900 Santa Fe Ave., Hughson, for Janice Lorraine Ingwerson, 81, of Ceres. She died Dec. 8, 2011 surrounded by her loved ones..

A funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. on Friday at the chapel.

Born June 24, 1930 in Shoshone, Idaho to Earl and Goldie Metcalf, Janice came to Ceres with her family in 1939. She attended Ceres schools and in 1948 graduated from Ceres High School where she was a drum majorette. During high school she worked in the box office at the Ceres Theatre on Fourth Street. Janice met and married Francis "Gus" Ingwerson in 1949. They settled in their home on Thomas Avenue where they remained for the rest of their lives.

Following in her mother's footsteps, Janice went to work at Ceres Drug Store and was employed there for 15 years. Upon retirement, she and Gus enjoyed seeing the United States traveling with their fifth-wheeler, visiting many friends and family along the way. Janice was loved by many and known as "Mom" to a number of her children's friends.

She leaves behind her children, Amron L. Schumacher of Circle Pines, Minn., Gregory E. Ingwerson, Sherri L. Thornburg, Eric E. Ingwerson and Malrie J. Fry, all of Ceres; and 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Leila Sanders, brother Bill Metcalf and loving husband of 49 years, Gus Ingwerson.

Remembrances may be sent to Community Hospice, 4368 Spyres Way, Modesto, or Relay for Life.
