Jeanette Barnes

Sept. 28, 1918 - July 19, 2013

Jeanette Barnes was born in Sutton, Nebraska. She passed away peacefully in her home in Ceres on Friday, July 19, with many family members by her side.

She was a member of the Ceres Methodist Church for over 70 years, and a member of Chapter #296 of the Order of Eastern Star. Mrs. Barnes retired from J.C. Penney's after 37 years. She and her late husband Elton Barnes both drove for Angels on Wheels for many years.

She is survived by her children Harvey (Brenda) Barnes of Rancho Cordova, DeMerris (George) Adcock of Ceres, Karen (Michael) White of Sitka, Alaska, and Pamela (David) Smith of Sierra Village; her sister, Betty Spencer of Hughson; and nine grandchildren, and 38 great- and great-great-grandchildren.

We will all miss her and remember her with great love.

She was preceded in death by Elton Barnes, her beloved husband of 58 years; her brother, Guy Troedson; and grandsons David Smith Jr., Kelley Adcock, Dillon Overcash and Jesse Prather.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Community Hospice, 4368 Spyres Way, Modesto, CA 95356.
There will be a visitation on Wednesday, July 24 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m at Lakewood Memorial Park in Hughson. Funeral services will be Thursday, July 25 at 11 a.m., also at Lakewood.
