A celebration of life was held Saturday at Holiday Manor Mobile Home Park for Jess Burl Forest, 89, of Modesto. He died Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at Memorial Medical Center.

Eaton Family Funeral & Cremation Service was in charge of arrangements.

Born Feb. 15, 1915, Mr. Forest was a native of Van Buren, Ark., and lived in Modesto for 54 years. He was a machinist for FMC Corp. for 27 years. Mr. Forest was a former president of the Ceres Odd Fellows Lodge and joined the Odd Fellows in 1933.

He leaves behind his wife, Ruth Forest of Modesto; five children, Jess B. Forest of Hurricane, W.Va., James C. Forest of Modesto, Helen Flanagan and Becky Tuner, both of Oakdale, and Linda Shafer of Springfield, Ore.; three brothers, Frank Forest of Arkansas, and Albert Forest and Oliver Forest, both of Oklahoma; three sisters, Louise Johnson, Virgie Lemons and Opal Anglin, all of Oklahoma; and 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
