A chapel service was held Tuesday at Lakewood Funeral Home for Jewell Lawlis, 95, of Ceres. She died Thursday, Aug. 18, 2005 at Garden City Healthcare in Modesto.

Burial was at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Born Aug. 1, 1910, Mrs. Lewis was a native of Texas and lived in Ceres for one year. She previously lived in Jasper, Texas for 12 years. Mrs. Lawlis was a cook in a hospital kitchen. She enjoyed praying, sewing, crocheting and quilting.

Mrs. Lawlis leaves behind three children, Alvin Ray Lawlis and Joan Bye, both of Ceres, and Helen Spurlock of Jasper; her sister, Lily Kidd of Texas; and 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter Bertie Maulding.
