A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 19 at Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel in Modesto for John Robert Tabor, 57, of Modesto. He died unexpectedly on March 9, 2011.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Salas Brothers.

Born Sept 30, 1953, John was born and raised in Ceres. He attended Ceres schools and in 1971 graduated from Ceres High School where he played on the football and swim teams. Mr. Tabor studied at Modesto Junior College where he also played waterpolo. He lived in Ceres until 1975.

For 18 years, John was employed by the Modesto Irrigation District. He recently retired from Athna Government Services based in Alaska as the senior groundwater treatment operator.

He leaves behind his wife, Lynnell DiFrancia of Modesto; three daughters, Kelly Tabor of Alaska, Katherine Tabor Stubbs of New York, and Michelle Shafer of Modesto; his father, John B. Tabor of Ceres; his sister, Suzanne Snowden of Fresno; his brother, Gary Tabor of Modesto; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by mother Wilma Deen Tabor.
