A Mass was held Tuesday morning at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church for Jose M. "Melro" Brasil, 60, of Ceres. He died Wednesday, May 19, 2004 from injuries sustained in an auto accident in Turlock.

Burial was at Turlock Memorial Park under the direction of Whitehurst, Norton & Dias Chapel.

Born Dec. 17, 1943, Mr. Brasil was a native of Crusal, Santo Ant-o, Toppo, S-o Jorge, Azores, and lived in Ceres for 26 years. He was a self-employed dairyman for four years. Mr. Brasil was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Turlock.

He leaves behind his wife, Maria Olivia Brasil of Ceres; three children, Rui M. Brasil of Escalon, Manuela Avila of Ripon and Debbie Brasil of Ceres; his mother, Victoria Brasil of Crusal, Santo Ant-o, Topo, S-o Jorge, Azores; five brothers, Julio Brasil of Ribeira Seca, S-o Jorge, Azores, Luis Brasil of Crusal, Santo Ant-o, Topo, S-o Jorge, Azores, Manuel Brasil of Turlock, and Isidiro Brasil and Fernando Brasil, both of Santa Nella; five sisters, Maria Azevedo of Stevinson, Lucinda Aguiar of Turlock, and Helena Nunes, Manuela Alves and Bernadette Brasil, all of Crusal, Santo Ant-o, Topo, S-o Jorge, Azores; and five grandchildren.
