A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Lakewood Memorial Park for Leonard David "L.D." Glover, 87, of Ceres. He died Feb. 21, 2008.

Born Feb. 3, 1921, Mr. Glover served in the Navy from 1942 to 1945 as a Seaman First Class aboard the USS Raleigh during World War II. He married Anne Elmo Bartshe on March 16, 1944, in Porterville. They were together for 52 year before her passing in 1996. Mr. Glover lived in Porterville for 15 years, before moving to Stanislaus County in 1960. He was a long time member of the American Legion Post 74. He served as a deacon of the Hughson Missionary Baptist Church starting in 1962. He mostly recently was a member of Keyes Landmark Missionary Baptist Church.

He leaves behind his children, Judy Scarbrough, Robert Glover, Julia Glover and Jane Rachels, all of Modesto, Joan McHale of Riverbank, Janice Glover of Empire, Walter Glover of Ceres, Jeanette Glover of Canyonville, Ore., and Leonard Glover and Jennifer Price both of Brewster, Wash.; his brother, Homer Lee Glover Jr., of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and 31 grandchildren and 61 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by daughter Janine Glover (in 1964), two brothers and two sisters.
