A visitation will be held 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10 at Lakewood Funeral Home for Mabel “Pug” Newton of Ceres. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11 at Lakewood Memorial Park’s Peacevale Garden.

Mabel “Pug” Newton was born in Westbrook, Texas to Collier and Lucille Board. Mabel moved with her family to Modesto in the 1940s and resided in Ceres since 1963.

Mabel graduated Modesto High School in 1953 and was a member of the Bakery and Confectionery Union and worked for Dolly Madison Bakery for 25 years. She was a member of Village Chapel Church in Ceres.

She leaves behind three children, Karen Newton-Lowery, Kristina Berns and Robert Keith Newton (Josie); her brother, Marvin Turner; her sister, Delores Newton; six grandchildren, Colton Dennis, Koree Brughelli, JoDee Westfall, Jamee Corbett, Kay Reeves, Steven Rubalcava; six great grandchildren Hunter, Ryker, Holden, Cole, Reed and Hazel; and numeorus nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years Robert Edward Newton.

She will be dearly missed by all those who know and love her.
