Visitation will be held at noon on Saturday at the Ceres Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Hatch Road, for Mavis Madeline Patterson, 88, of Ceres. She died at her home on Dec. 7, 2008 with her family by her side.

Services will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will follow at Ceres Memorial Park.

Born Oct. 23, 1920, Mrs. Patterson was a native of Scotts Bluff, Neb., and grew up in Oregon. She graduated from Oregon City High School. She married William Patterson in Vancouver, Wash. They moved to Modesto in 1955 and settled in Ceres in 1964. Mrs. Patterson retired from CVC/General Foods in 1985 after 20 years of employment. Mavis enjoyed genealogy and quilting. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Ceres.

She leaves behind eight children, Henry Patterson of Valley Springs, Joe Patterson of San Antonio, Texas, Dana Patterson of Raytown, Mo., Ben Patterson of Greenwood, Del., Charlotte Holley, Kathy Garcia, and Nina Patterson, all of Ceres, and Linda Hodges of Modesto; and 25 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband William Patterson, four sisters, three brothers and son William Patterson.
