A funeral service was held Thursday at the Lakewood Funeral Home and Memorial Park for Melvin Devere Renard, 81, of Valley Home. He died Nov. 10, 2007 at home after a short battle with lung cancer.

Born Nov. 2, 1926 to John and Katie Renard in Morland, Kan., Mr. Renard moved to Modesto in February 1943. He served in both the Merchant Marines (1944-48) and the Air Force (1952-54). He met and married Lorretta and they had four children. He lived in Modesto, Ceres, and Valley Home for the past 64 years. Mr. Renard was a certified welder at Thiel Steel and was a maintenance mechanic at Tilly Lewis Foods, Del Monte, Tri-Valley Growers canneries and at the Oakdale Hershey Plant.

Mr. Renard was a lifelong member of the Oakdale Saddle Club.

He leaves behind four children, Melanie Renard and Rebecca Renard, both of Modesto, Mark Renard of San Diego and Laura Lopez of Oakdale; his brother, John Renard of Modesto; and10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
