Mike Hettema

Allen Mortuary was in charge of arrangements for Richard Myron "Mike" Hettema, 90, of Hughson. He died peacefully on Nov 5, 2008 at the Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson.

Services will be held later at Punchbowl National Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu.

Born April 1918, Mr. Hettema was a native of Rochester, NY, and then moved to Honolulu, Hawaii with his family as a young child. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II as a gunner and radio operator aboard B-17s in the Pacific Theater over the Solomon Islands, New Guinea and Guadacanal. Mr. Hettema was a pilot with Hawaiian Airlines for 27 years. He later moved to Samaritan Village in Hughson.

He leaves behind his daughters, Barbara Barkley of New Mexico, Michelle Hettema Watt of Mililani, HI, Gretchen Cramer Gack of Turlock, and Nina Hettema of Covelo; his sister, Thalia Word of Kailua, Hawaii; and four grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
