A memorial service was held Saturday at Covenant Village for Neal H. Gardenhire, 88, of Turlock. He died Feb. 25, 2009 in Turlock.

Born Dec. 30, 1920 in Springfield, Mo., Neal attended the junior College in McAllister, Okla., and Cameron College where he met his wife, Geraldine Price. They were married Dec. 21, 1940. They moved to California in 1941 and in 149 moved to Ceres where they raised their family. Neal served in the volunteer fire department, was a member of the Lions Club and of the City Council. He organized the first 4-H club for boys in 1953. Mr. Gardenhire assisted his wife in the family drapery business and also worked as an insurance consultant for Metropolitan Life. After retirement, he enjoyed extensive travel in the U.S. and Mexico in his RV.

He leaves behind his wife of 68 years, Gerry Gardenhire of Turlock; four children, Neal Gardenhire of Black Diamond, Wash., Rozann Densmore of Pleasanton, John Gardenhire of Marina, and Susan Sanders of Bellevue, Wash.; his brother, Val Gardenhire of Oklahoma City, Okla.; his sister, Barbetta Abbott of Sacramento; and nine grandchildren and 14 great-grand- children.
