Services were held Saturday at the Ceres Chapel of Franklin & Downs for Ozier Earl "Buck" Martin, 91, of Ceres. He died Jan. 2, 2008 at the Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson.

Burial was at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Born Sept. 7, 1916, Mr. Martin was born near Bellefonte, in Boone County, Arkansas, to Ora (Ozier) and Clingon Martin. Mr. Martin was manager of a produce house and chicken hatchery in Arkansas. After moving to Ceres in 1954, he continued to work in the poultry industry. He and his family owned and operated the Martin Poultry Ranch on Morgan Road in Ceres for many years. He was a member of the Ceres First United Methodist Church, Ceres Historical Society, and the Ceres Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). A veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theater, Mr. Martin earned the Bronze Star award.

He leaves behind his wife of 66 years, Wilma Jean Hedrick Martin of Ceres; five children, Betty Davis of Ceres, James Martin of Modesto, JoAn Long of Tucson, Bill D. Martin of Las Vegas, Karen Mendenhall of Turlock; eight grandchildren, Cheryl Morrow, Michael Long, Melinda Davis, Mathew Long, Kelsey Mendenhall, Trenton Mendenhall, Jaclyn Riley, and Thomas Riley; and two great-grandchildren, Corbin Morrow and Kailee Morrow. He was preceded in death by son, Earl Gene Martin, parents Ora and Clingon Martin, brothers Hermis Martin and Frank Martin, and sister Eula Weakland.
