A funeral service was held Monday morning at the Colonial Chapel of Franklin & Downs for Robert Andrew Downs, 53, of Ceres. He died of natural causes at the California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco.

Born Oct. 31, 1950, Mr. Downs was a native of Phoenix, Ariz., and lived in Ceres for many years. Mr. Downs served in the Navy aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Saratoga from 1969 to 1973 during the Vietnam War. He was a machinist and member of Trinity Baptist Church in Modesto.

He leaves behind his wife, Paula Downs of Ceres; two children, Cammie Downs and Jason Downs, both of Ceres; three brothers, James Downs of Ceres, Gerald Downs of Ripon and Jack Downs of Jamestown; three sisters, Sherry Downs of Portland, Ore., Linda McCoy of Ceres and Yvonne Rowland of Vacaville; and two grandchildren.
