Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a rosary at 6 p.m today (Wednesday) at Lakewood Funeral Home for Robert John Minter, 78, of Ceres. He died August 1, 2009 at Memorial Medical Center with his family by his side.

Mass will be said at 10 a.m., Thursday, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Hughson. Interment will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Born June 11, 1931 in French Camp to Walter and Kathryn Minter, Robert was a lifelong area resident, graduating from Ripon High School in 1949. In 1951, Robert met and married Laura Rocha. He served in the Army at Ford Ord, from 1952 to 1954. In time, the couple moved to Ceres, where they lived for 45 years. Robert worked for many years hauling hay with Tim Gomes. He custom farmed with Louie Toste in Hughson, and was a mechanic at Modesto Toyota for 16 years. In retirement, Mr. Minter chopped corn and oats with Tim Morais. Robert was a past president of Cabrillo Club #27 and a member of the Modesto Portuguese Pentecost Association. He volunteered with the delivery of daffodils, and participated in cooking breakfast for its participants. Robert enjoyed his travels with the Modesto Camper Club and recently returned from an annual fishing trip in Bodega Bay with the Oakdale Offshore fishermen.

He leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Laura Minter; three children, Robert Minter, Loretta Ghaner, and Tina Fidalgo, all of Modesto; five grandchildren, Shannon Lewis, Stephen Minter, Katie Moffett, Aamy Sanders, and Albert Fidalgo III; four great-grandsons, Mason Lewis, Jordan Moffett, Nolan Moffett, and James Sanders; and his sister, Shirley Caetano of Ripon. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son-in-law Albert Fidalgo, Jr.
