A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Light of Christ Lutheran Church for Ruth Freitag Saugstad, 94, of Turlock. She died July 28, 2007 in Turlock.

Allen Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Burial will be atTurlock Memorial Park.

Born Jan. 13, 1913, Mrs. Saugstad was a native of Max, N.D., and graduated from the teacher's college at Minot State Normal School in North Dakota. She began her teaching career in a one-room school in Culbertson, Mont. She met and married Alfred Saugstad in 1943 while they were both teaching in Wilton, N.D. Before moving to Turlock in 1958 they lived in Dazey, N.D., Red Lodge, Mont., and Red Bluff. Ruth taught at Keyes Elementary School from 1959 to 1977.

Mrs. Saugstad enjoyed spending time with family and friends and RV traveling. Ruth also enjoyed reading, caring for her garden, playing games and writing letters to friends and family. Her letters and cards always included a quote from her lifelong collection of quotations.

Ruth was a woman of deep faith, active in Nazareth Lutheran Church in Turlock.

She leaves behind three sons Kim Saugstad, Stewart Saugstad and Robert Saugstad; and three grandchildren, Amanda, Andrew and Taylor.
