Funeral services were held Friday at Progressive Missionary Baptist Church in Modesto, for Simon Jordan Jr. 50, of Las Vegas. He died unexpectedly on Sept. 29, 2010.

Born April 6, 1960 in Ceres to the late Simon Jordan Sr. and Novella Jordan, Simon graduated from Ceres High School in 1978. Mr. Jordan earned a bachelor's degree from San Francisco State University, a master's degree from Norfolk State University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Phoenix, where he worked as a professor of history. He believed in higher education and was willing to do whatever he could to assist young people in achieving higher learning. He lived in Michigan, Virginia and Guam before settling in Las Vegas, Nev. In addition to loving his work, Simon enjoyed traveling all over the world, where he met and established lifelong friendships. Mr. Jordan was a supporter of the Boys and Girls Club, Rescue Mission, and his church, Victory Baptist Church in Las Vegas, and Progressive Missionary Baptist Church in Modesto.

He leaves behind his mother, Novella C. Jordan; and his siblings, James Manor, Jerry Jordan, Dorothy Thomas, Blanche Mayberry and Haryah Jordan.
