A graveside service was held Tuesday at Lakewood Memorial Park for Stanton "Gene" Simms, 74, of Ceres. He died Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at his home.

The McHenry Chapel of Franklin & Downs was in charge of arrangements.

Born Oct. 21, 1930, Mr. Simms was a native of Modesto and lived in Ceres and Modesto his entire life. He was a general manager for Container Co., where he was employed for 20 years. Mr. Simms served in the Navy. He was a former member of both the American Legion in Modesto and the Ceres Lions Club. He belonged to the Modesto Rifle Club and was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. Mr. Simms once served as a Cub Scout master. He enjoyed woodworking.

He leaves behind his wife, Wilma Simms of Ceres; four children, David Simms of Modesto, Jeanne Chandler and Susan Hamasaki, both of Turlock and Gary Simms of San Francisco; and two grandchildren.
