A memorial service was held Monday at the Salvation Army Modesto Citadel for Wanda Marie Wheeler, 85, of Hughson. She died July 13, 2009 in Hughson.

The Ceres Chapel of Franklin & Downs was in charge of arrangements.

Wanda was born Dec. 1, 1923 in Fort Smith, Ark. On Nov. 30, 1941, she married Cleo B. Wheeler, her late husband of 57 years. Mrs. Wheeler was considered an excellent seamstress, employed by Deluxe Cleaners in Modesto until her retirement in 1984. Wanda was a member of the Modesto Citadel Salvation Army and served for many years as a leader of the Salvation Army Home League. She also enjoyed participating in the Ceres and Samaritan Village Red Hat societies. Wanda volunteered her services at the Delta Blood Bank, Ceres Healthy Start, Samaritan Village Gift Shop, and with many Salvation Army Community Service projects.

She leaves behind three daughters, Linda Baker of Bonham, Texas, Connie Gundlach of Ceres, and Stella Kathryn Wheeler of Jamestown; her sister, Clara Ladusau of Fresno; and eight grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.

Remembrances may be sent to Community Hospice, 4768 Spyres Way, Modesto CA 95356; or to the Salvation Army, 625 I St., Modesto, CA 95354.
