A service was held Saturday at Hughson United Methodist Church for William "Bill" Oscar Zehrung, 85, of Hughson. He died Jan. 12, 2009.

Lakewood Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Born April 21, 1923, Bill was a native of Pendleton, Ore., and migrated with his family to California in the late 1920s. He lived in the Hughson/Denair area most of his life. He was a veteran of World War II. On his farm on East Whitmore Avenue, Mr. Zehrung raised his family as well as peaches and almonds. He was a longtime member of the Hughson Odd Fellows Lodge, the Stanislaus County Farm Bureau, and Hughson United Methodist Church. Bill was also a dedicated supporter of the California Women for Agriculture (CWA).

He leaves behind four children, Barbara Warner of Hickman, Brent Zehrung of Denair, Beth Fritz of Modesto and Barbara Zehrung-Foote of Ballico; his brother, Tom Zehrung of Mariposa; three sisters, Zaida Cashman of Oakdale, Margaret Webb of LeBec, and Jean Phillips of Nevada; and 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Bill was preceded in death by wife Gertrude and son Bruce.
