Impeach? Why? Don’t Democrats think they can beat Trump in 2020?

“We’re going to impeach the mother-f**ker!”

That was newly elected U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) speaking to her supporters on Jan. 3 after being sworn into Congress, laying out for them what the rest of the country already knows. The new Democrat-controlled House of Representatives under Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is going to waste the next two years pursuing a pointless, political witch hunt against President Donald Trump leading to impeachment.

They’re not even waiting for a crime. Or for Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s imminent report to be delivered to the Attorney General. Tlaib says as much in her USA Today joint oped with Free Speech For People President John Bonifaz calling for impeachment now, which states in part, “We don’t need to wait for Mueller.”

They’re just going to impeach him.

What for? They’ll figure that out later.

They think it might have something to do with Russia collusion on the DNC hacks and Wikileaks from 2016.

But maybe not. So far, no Trump campaign figures have been prosecuted by Mueller for that.

So, perhaps obstruction of justice for firing former FBI Director James Comey or former Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Except Presidents have the legal authority to do that.

So maybe it will be supposed campaign finance violations. Except the non-disclosure agreements with women alleging affairs with President Trump were not campaign-related to begin with.

Or the Emoluments Clause. But is having overseas investments really covered under the Clause blocking foreign “gifts”?

No worries. They’ll get there.

Something. Anything. Whatever it takes.

It is this ends-justify-the-means mentality that has brought us to this pass in the first place with this politically motivated investigation. Recall the dossier of lies by ex-British spy Christopher Steele alleging collusion was originally paid for by the Democratic National Committee and the Hillary Clinton campaign in 2016.

The FBI then used it as “evidence,” along with strategically placed media reports, to justify surveillance against the Trump campaign, the opposition party at the time, via the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.

Former FBI agent Peter Strzok called the surveillance an “insurance policy,” apparently just in case Trump won the election.

Reminding the American people that, it never mattered what was found, the surveillance and ensuing investigation by the Justice Department was simply all about getting Trump.

Similarly, it won’t matter what the House specifically impeaches Trump for.

The ends justify the means, after all.

As for President Trump, he shrugged off Tlaib’s comments on Twitter, stating, “They only want to impeach me because they know they can’t win in 2020, too much success!”

Which, Trump raises a good point.

Why do Democrats want to impeach Trump for? Don’t they think they can beat him in 2020?

Maybe it’s just another “insurance policy” just in case they can’t.

It’s all political. It always was.
