Support offered to cancer patients in Chemo Crew

Editor, Ceres Courier,

It's amazing how people cope with adversity, some sink, and some swim head on, fighting each wave of pain and heart ache with tenacity and dignity. Bridgette Eilers, a 30-year-old ovarian cancer survivor, and mother of three, handled cancer like an Olympian swimmer, determined to fight, resolved to live. Bridgette's battle with cancer was a tough one, facing every side effect of chemotherapy imaginable. She recognized through her numerous trips to the hospital and weekly visits to the doctor's office, that there were missing "tools" to make her chemotherapy sessions easier on her. When the light of living a normal life again began to shine for her, Bridgette decided to use her experience and create those helpful tools; hence the Chemo Crew was born.

The Chemo Crew is a non-profit organization designed to provide chemotherapy patients a free essentials kit and needed services such as home repair, transportation, and companionship during their sessions, plus much more. The city of Ceres Recreation Division has jumped on board to help support this fantastic organization by hosting free workshops. The next workshop is Thursday, Aug. 23 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Ceres Community Center. For more information about getting involved go to www.thechemocrew.com or call Bridgette at 216-6271. To register for the free workshops go to www.ci.ceres.ca.us and click on the "register now" button.

Editor's opinion spot on

Editor, Ceres Courier,

Regarding your Ceres Courier column of August 15, 2012, you are spot on, sir, in your opinion of political correctness, which I see as a form of censorship.

If I may, I refer to the late William F. Buckley who said, "Liberals claim to want to give a hearing to other views, but then are shocked and offended to discover that there are other views."

Good column, Jeff. I look forward to following you every week.

John Weems,

Disappointed in Courier change

Editor, Ceres Courier,

I saw that the Courier is going to start charging for obituaries. I think it is a big mistake. Very disappointing to me. The other newspaper in our area charges an arm and a leg for anything over 10 lines. When my husband died, I was able to give him a nice tribute in our Ceres Courier. I saw it to be an act of kindness.

I beg of you to reconsider. I realize the economy is in the tank and you gotta do what you got to do, but please reconsider.

Melinda Haley,

Ceres

Paper shows good things in Ceres

Editor, Ceres Courier,

I am currently in the Marines and deployed to Afghanistan again and I do enjoy reading your articles in the paper. It's good to know there are still good things happening in Ceres after leaving there.

Thank you for your time.

R/S Sgt Matthew Smith,

Ceres
