Paying more for water you don't dare drink

Editor, Ceres Courier,

I am concerned with our drinking water here in Ceres.

The letter we all received with our bill states that the water "failed the maximum contaminant level" MCL. The city of Ceres was required by state law to notify its consumers of its dangers.

I have had undrinkable water, sudsy water and discolored water since living in Ceres.

I will not give this water to my pet much less family members, which in turn costs my family more money by having to purchase our own water. I see that our rates are being raised! Wow, so pay more for your water, just don't drink the water!

Nancy Garrad,

Ceres

Thanks for the support

Editor, Ceres Courier,

I just have to give a shout out to all the people who helped me out in dance throughout the years. Dance has been my sport since I was five. Most people think because they are paid lessons that a family can always afford the travel, costumes, and competition teams. If I wasn't able to raise funds I wouldn't be able to continue to do what I love. I am a member of Footnotes Fusion competitive team, which has the best instructors ever who have helped me grow so much.

Special thanks to the staff at John F. Kennedy School, Luke with Haircut USA, Dr. Barton, Paraiso Vineyards, Hahn Estates, All-Pro Bail Bonds, Tia Benita, Uncle Andy, and the rest of my family who is always willing to step up and support my sister and I throughout the years. You have had a huge impact on my life thank you so much!

Adrienne Elizabeth Evans,

U.S. Congress moving nation toward socialism

Editor, Ceres Courier,

The current political battle is not as some want to believe a battle of who is stronger between two political parties. We are locked in a war four decades long over which ideology will run this nation until its end. The current party has no intention of giving up its control and the Republican Party has lost its direction. The truth is this nation is the last example to the world of democracy, free market economics and freedom. Now it is being taken in the same direction as the rest of the world. We have become followers instead of leaders.

Over the past decades the movement for this change has grown. Not by proclaiming how correct its ideology is but by smoke and mirrors. When there was no hope of gaining ground in congress the liberals got abortion as law in the courts. Even when Article I of the Constitution declares "all legislative powers... Shall be vested in a Congress." .. Somehow the minority movement got a law passed by the courts that they could not get from Congress. Then again they got the teaching of creation removed from the schools by a court decision when they could not get it done in Congress. Then prayer was removed from schools in the name of "separation of church and state", yet those words cannot be found in the constitution. Now the current government is leading this nation into socialism even while the major nations around the world have proven it fails. England, France and Germany voted out socialism in this past election. Yet the current administration continues with its agenda of total government control.

Let's look at some of the features in socialists countries. Freedom of speech is lost. The news media is controlled by the government. People are restricted in their lifestyles. And despite the popularity of "spread the wealth" only a limited few in government are of the "wealthy" variety.

While many on the left claim that this is all perfectly legal, take a look at the 10th Amendment it states very plainly that "powers not delegated to the united states by the Constitution nor prohibited by it to the states , are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people. While there have been many abuses from both sides of the isle, it is the politicians that are at fault, not the Constitution. That document made this nation one of the greatest in the world for two hundred years. It is no coincidence that when the politicians started abusing their powers we began a slide down which we are very near the bottom.

Now in the name of health care for all our government is very close to taking total control of our very lives. Let no one deceive you about the words of the proposed bill are available to anyone who cares to find them. They spell out how the government will control costs by controlling who gets treated and how. They spell out that mid wives and nurses will get the same pay as doctors. They spell out abortion funded by the government. There are a great many other abuses of our freedom spelled out if we chose to look.

There is also the practical side to look at. Why are people from Canada, England and other countries coming here for treatment when they have the same program that congress is trying to force on us? Why is not Sen. Dodd taking his money and going to another country or his cancer treatment if our health care is so bad? Why are we not hearing promises of the members of congress to include themselves in this new plan? The truth is that this is not about what is good for the people . It is all about control of the government by controlling the people's lives and making them dependent upon the government.

The biggest and most important question voters should be asking while the members of congress are home on break is... If this agenda is so good for the nation why is there so much done in secret? Why is the media not telling us about the how great this is working in other countries? Why does the leadership insist on rushing all this legislation through without giving people the time to read it? Why can't the members of Congress look us in the face and tell us they have read every word of the legislation they voted for. After all they were sent to congress to represent us the people. We put them in office and they work for us. All the promises or threats from their party leadership to get on board, be a team player, mean nothing if we don't re-elect them.

This government was established as a government of the people for the people and by the people. It is being hijacked by special interests and greedy self serving politicians who need to be sent home by the voters.

Jerry Johnson
