Editor, Ceres Courier,
I just want to take a moment during the long stretch of spring semester to commend our Ceres Unified School District and the staff of Adkison Elementary on a level of excellence that needs to be celebrated.
Our family recently got to take part in a wonderful special event based on literacy, where the school and district leaders secured a grant to give students free book, crafts and a great night out. Children read with their parents, played with toys based on phonic principles and delighted to have their faces painted. Materials were available in English and Spanish, and even younger siblings were welcomed to participate. Everyone was enjoying themselves, and everyone was learning! There is a constant stream of criticism directed at public education and teachers work to address major social issues that show up in the classroom (as a former teacher, ask me how I know). Educators do their hard work regardless of dismissive attitudes and critique. This week we got to witness excellence in education, and dedicated staff building an incredible learning community right here in Ceres. I thought they needed some public kudos, as they make our community better every day.
