Council should trim down
letter

Editor, Ceres Courier,

I have not been very connected to the goings-on of our city but when I went to a recent council meeting I noticed that all of our council people are morbidly obese with maybe one less obese and more in the category of overweight. I don’t intend to be cruel but it’s kind of embarrassing that our council is so far out of physical shape.

I believe that being obese is an outward sign of someone who lacks self-control and self-discipline and that this lack of self-discipline is likely to be present in other areas of daily conduct, such as how they spend the money. And from what I understand, the city seems is not well disciplined in spending because they had to borrow $2 million from their savings account.

My weight has gone up significantly since I got out of the military and had no reason to wake up in the morning and exercise every day. My unwillingness to do necessary things like study or clean seems parallel to my unwillingness to exercise.

Maybe it’s not always the case and there are legitimate cases where a disciplined person does not care about their appearance or health but is disciplined in things that matter to them. I do think this is the exception, however.

I think it would be a neat idea if our council decided to put their pride aside and lead by example and engage in a friendly competitive weight loss contest which may inspire others to follow by example. And I’m not talking bariatric surgery either. They would look better, feel better and be healthier.
