Editor, Ceres Courier,
The nightly news industry specializes these days in salacious entertainment “news” like video accounts of near disasters at airports, celebrity sightings, weather upheavals and shark attacks. In other words, whatever is sensational and profit producing.
Our news agencies can’t get far enough away from real socio-economic difficulties like our current family formation disaster, misleading business advertising, outrageous short-term interest rates, sports obsessions and gambling, disappearance of serious civics and history instruction in the schools, and the studied ignorance of our written democratic constitutional law displayed by leaders of both political parties.
Our news agencies are a big part of the problem today, and if the people don’t raise Cain about it soon, the “news” will lead us over the cliff to national oblivion.
