Proposition 50 is a very dangerous step backward
letter

Editor, Ceres Courier,

Proposition 50 is a dangerous step backward for fair representation in California.

While Democrats make up about 45% of registered voters in the state, Proposition 50 could hand them 92% of our congressional seats, leaving Independents and Republicans with as few as four out of 52.

That’s not democracy; that’s rigging the system.

Proposition 50 would dismantle California’s independent redistricting commission – one of the most respected in the country – and put redistricting power back in the hands of politicians. It’s blatant partisan gerrymandering disguised as reform.

Fair representation matters. If nearly half of California voters aren’t Democrats, why should Democrats get nearly all the seats? Proposition 50 silences millions of Californians and undermines the principle of equal voice in government.

Vote no on Proposition 50. California deserves a democracy that reflects all of us – not just one party.
