Editor, Ceres Courier,
In the spirit of thanksgiving, I’m thankful for the Ceres Courier.
It’s where I get reliable local news, how I catch up on local government affairs and how I learn about community events on a weekly basis.
The Courier first caught my attention when it ran full page articles on two Ceres High School varsity soccer players that made them seem like rock stars. At the time, I was a Ceres varsity soccer player myself so that was a big deal and from then on, I was hooked on the sports section and hoped to one day make the paper; I did in 2005, sadly in a 2-1 loss to Modesto. However, making it to the paper gave me the feeling that for the Courier, anyone in Ceres is newsworthy.
Eighteen years later, I am still hooked on the Ceres Courier but for an entirely different reason–how critical it is of our local government.
Although my reading preferences and many things have changed in 18 years, the Courier has remained committed to delivering local news and making the average Cerean newsworthy even when our letters may make the editor bristle.
Thank you for your service and happy Thanksgiving to all.
Alvaro Franco,
Ceres
