A number of Ceres and Hughson agricultural students are showing - or have shown - this week at the Stanislaus County Fair, now midway through its 10-day run.

Among those doing well at shows included Abraham Navarro, a Central Valley High School FFA member whose animal won prestige. Matthew Bailey, a Ceres 4-H member, earned 4H Champion York hog on Monday.

The fair opened Friday and ends this Sunday.

The fair rocked last night with the Beach Boys on the free Budweiser Variety Free Stage. Saturday made fair-goers "Do a Little Dance" thanks to KC & The Sunshine Band. Laughter was created Sunday evening by comedian Bill Engvall and local Christians enjoyed Natalie Grant on Monday evening.

Other entertainers this week are: Jack Ingram and Chuck Wicks tonight at 8:30 p.m.; Boys Like Girls on Thursday; Blake Shelton on Friday; Terri Clark on Saturday; and Los Tucanes on Sunday, July 25.

Ceres resident Ernie Bucio and his Latin Funk Band will perform tonight on the CenCal Center Stage from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

In arena sports, Joey Neto of Ceres won $50 in the second heat and $200 in the finals of the destruction derby. Hughson resident Forrest Silva finished third place in the derby finals and took home $350. Jeff Duarte, also of Hughson, won $100 in the consolation heat.

Tonight's arena sports will include Quad Drags and Motorcycle Jumpers, 7 p.m., $8 for reserved seats, $6 adult general admission, and $4 Child admission (12 and under), in addition to Fair admission.

Returning to the fair is the popular Rainforest Adventure, an 8,000-square-foot replica of a rainforest filled with toucans, anacondas, snapping turtles, geckos, and more.

Fair admission is $12 for adults, $3 for children age 6 to 12 and free for age 5 and younger. For more information visit www.stancofair.com.

Fair visitors may park at California State University Stanislaus (parking lots located on Crowell, off Monte Vista), and Pitman High School (parking lots on Christoffersen) for a free shuttle ride. This service will run nightly during the 10 days of the Fair, from 4:30 p.m. to midnight with shuttles departing to and from the fairgrounds every 15 minutes. Parking at the fairgrounds is available for $4.
